Leeds United Air Crash Memories

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink

Life in 1998

In 1998 Jimmy was a Leeds United forward

he remembers the crash was just 3 days after his 26th birthday.

Jimmy’s daughter was 2 years old

…from a Daily Mail interview with David O’Leary in 2022

David O’Leary injured his shoulder forcing open the door, scrambling along the wing and dropping to safety. ‘We were stood in a muddy field, all the fire engines racing towards us’.

I’ll never forget one of the crew asking Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink if he was OK. “Am I OK? You call that a f***ing take-off?”. It made us laugh but we were lucky.

If we’d been at Heathrow we would have been on the M25. At Leeds-Bradford, already in the hills.

The last 25 years

Jimmy stayed at Leeds United until 1999, in that year he had been awarded the Premier League Golden Boot Award for his prolific goalscoring! Jimmy continued his successful playing career at Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, Middlesborough, Charlton Athletic and Cardiff City. He also earned 23 caps as an International player for the Netherlands national team.

In 2011 Jimmy began his football managerial career.

March 2023 Jimmy was appointed as a coach to the England national team.

Jimmy is a proud dad of 4 beautiful daughters

One of Jimmy’s talented daughters Miah is enjoying both Stage and Screen success.

Miah featured in Matilda the Musical Movie and in the West End show Tina The Musical as young Anna Mae (Tina Turner)
