Stephen stayed at Leeds United until 2004. He continued his playing career at Barnsley, Cardiff City, Sheffield Wednesday and Shamrock Rovers.

Stephen was an International player for the Republic of Ireland national team

In 2004 Stephen married Michelle.

In 2014 Stephen decided to return to Dublin to play for his childhood club Shamrock Rovers.

Stephen hung up his boots in 2016 before being asked to take over the club as Sporting Director. In his third season at Shamrock Rovers as their Sporting Director they enjoyed success winning the FAI Cup which the club had last won in 1986!

Stephen’s son Joel is following in his dad’s footsteps playing for Shamrock Rovers
